With the growing daily demands in our lives — and on our psyches — we’re being reminded how important it is to create space to fully, unapologetically rest.
We live in a culture that glorifies productivity and treats rest as something we can’t afford, or something we’ll “get to” eventually. Too often, we get to it when our body fails, and forces us to lie tf down. And we definitely can’t afford that.
To our beautiful birth workers, parents, those carrying life — to all humans, living in this chaotic time… this is your friendly reminder:
Rest is not optional.
We repeat: rest is not optional.
It’s not something to be earned.
It’s not something to do later.
It is a crucial foundation for healing, clarity and creative power. Without it, no practice, no vision, no relationship, no calling has the space to take root. Without it, we can’t effectively serve — our clients, our children, our partners… ourselves.
So here’s a loving invitation…
One day this week, consider making time to:
Rest — in whatever way your body is asking for it.
Say “no” to a social outing or project that may sound nice but isn’t necessary. (“No” is a complete sentence.)
Take a cat nap instead of folding that pile of laundry. Bonus points for delegation (done > perfect)!
Take a moment during your workday to sit outside and get some fresh air (without your phone).
Go to bed early instead of binge-watching, working or scrolling.
Do one other thing that feels restorative for you.
Before bed, listen to the sleep meditation above, an offering by
Auntie Eve. You’ll be glad you did. 🥰
Let yourself receive the gift of stillness. Notice how it feels. If you feel resistance, that, too, is useful information. Take note, offer yourself patience… and rest anyway.
Sending love. 🤍
